I wrote " Saving Face " for the Movie
"In The Name Of Gerry Conlon".
It's a duet featuring my son Fionn Brunnock on vocals.
I'm releasing this song to coincide with the film premier at the Foyle Film festival Nov 20 2022.
Winner of the audience award at this year's Biografilm Festival, this is award-winning photojournalist and director Lorenzo Moscia's profile of Gerry Conlon — a member of the Guildford four imprisoned for fifteen years after being wrongfully convicted for an IRA bombing. In the two months preceding his death, Conlon recounts his story of a remarkable life marked but not broken by injustice.
In 1974, Gerry Conlon was a victim of one of the worst judicial crimes in UK history. Aged 20, he and 3 others were sentenced to life in prison for an IRA bombing. 'The Guildford Four' had to wait until 1989 for the court to recognise the evidence was false. Conlon became a world-famous human rights activist. Director Lorenzo Moscia met Gerry two months before his death, recording his testament to a remarkable life.
2022. Italy. Director: Lorenzo Moscia. Cast: Gerry Conlon, Gareth Peirce, Jim Sheridan. Duration: 1hr 22mins.
I woke up from the Falls, the bullets and bomb
I made my way to London town
Never had a rival, or fought for survival,
my world up-turned, with what was to come
I took short cut, I took a beating
I took a detour, for 15 years.
Now I’m giving no quarter, Pour boiling water
Two pounds of sugar, was looking to burn,
Land a sock on your head, like an army chopper
With a heart full of battery, spilling its rage.
Some times I see
Paddy-Joe Hill
Cell nineteen
His Tables of Marquetry
I may be out,
I’ll never be free
For all that I feel
Is for them there in Gartree
Look in my eyes, if you think that I’m guilty
From father to son, our last words to the crown
For who could love me, But thems there that know me
In my death, you stare at the ground.
Blood on her brow, a wrongful conviction
A mothers love, her gethsemane
Praying at head stones ,with flowers and beads
While saving face, is judiciary.
Some times I see
Paddy-Joe Hill
In his Cell 19
With his tables of Marquetry
I may be out,
I’ll never be free
For all that I feel
Is for them there in Gartree
Them there in Gartree.
Look in my eyes, if you think that I’m guilty
From father to son , our last words to the crown
For who could love me, But thems there that know me
In my death, you stare at the ground.
